Theres schemes ive heard about in some countries where young people are offered discounted rent in an older persons house, in exchange for X amount of hours of labour per week (grocery shopping, yard work etc). I think its a good deal as long as there are clear expectations on both sides and boundaries of what you will and wont do (eg no personal care). In a HCOL city it could work out great!
