Special rituals and prayers marked the auspicious ‘Sri Rama Navami’ festival observed at various temples in Tirupati on Friday (March 27).The festivities began at the centuries-old Sri Kodandarama Swamy temple, belonging to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) and located in the heart of Tirupati, which is considered equivalent to those in Bhadrachalam and Vontimitta in terms of reverence. The temple recently witnessed the nine-day annual Brahmotsavam, while the Rama Navami festivities follow close on its heels. The three-day event includes Sri Rama Navami, Sita Rama Kalyanam and Srirama Pattabhishekam, viz., Lord Rama’s Jayanti, his divine wedding with Sita and coronation as the emperor, observed on March 27, 28 and 29 respectively. The event was also observed in various other temples in a grand manner. As is the practice observed for the last thirty years, devotees of Uttaradhi Mutt pulled a mini chariot carrying the idols of Rama, Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman, from its Mitta Street premises around the Kodandarama temple precincts.Published - March 27, 2026 08:15 pm IST
