Agreed! I’m a Canadian surrogate and because of the way our laws are surrogates will prioritize choosing parents that they believe have good values, respect and are good partners for such an intimate project. In the US I see so many surrogates experiencing awful pregnancies because they choose parents based on money and not compatibility and they end up getting treated as employees, malicious compliance and everyone is treating the baby as a pawn in a power fight. It’s absolutely wild. Would getting enough money for a down payment be nice? Sure but not at the expense of getting treated poorly and feeling worried that I grew a baby for bad people.
