MP D. Purandeswari calls for alternative road access for East Godavari farmers from upcoming railway boundary wall

Purandeswari on Wednesday appealed to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to provide alternative road access to farmers before the construction of a boundary wall on the railway land in Kovvur and Chagallu mandals in East Godavari district.Farmers difficultiesMs. Purandeswari on Wednesday met Mr. Vaishnaw, in New Delhi and explained the difficulties farmers would face in accessing their fields located along the railway boundary for agricultural activities and transportation of their farm produce.“The present proposal of constructing a boundary wall, without alternative access, will severely disrupt agricultural activity and impact the livelihood of a large number of small and marginal farmers in the East Godavari area,” said Ms. Purandeswari.The railway authorities have demarked boundary between km 564/42 to km 568/24 on the Vijayawada-Visakhapatnam railway 6 line for the construction of the boundary wall.Fresh survey soughtIn her representation, Ms. Purandeswari sought a field-level inspection and a fresh survey of the railway land and boundary, as claims are that the proposed boundary falls within the land belonging to the local farmers in the de-marked boundary. Ms. Purandeswari pointed out that access from the villages of Pasivedala of Kovvur mandal and Gowripalli of Chagallu mandal would be cut-off if the boundary is constructed by the railway authorities.Published - March 25, 2026 07:32 pm IST
