Since the last few years, Apple has been adopting OLED panels for its products, sourcing most of them from Samsung Display, the leader in the OLED industry. Now, it appears the next device the Cupertino-based tech giant plans to bring this upgrade to is the iMac, with the company reportedly once again turning to Samsung.According to a report from ZDNet, Apple is planning to launch an iMac with an OLED display in 2029 or 2030. As part of those plans, the company has asked Samsung Display and LG Display to provide OLED panel samples for its upcoming desktop PC.Reportedly, Apple has asked Samsung Display to provide sample OLED panels with a pixel density of 220 pixels per inch (PPI), produced on its Quantum-Dot OLED (QD-OLED) production line, by the end of the second half of this year. Recently, SEMES said that it had supplied Samsung Display with equipment for manufacturing QD-OLED panels with a 220 PPI pixel density. It is being said that the South Korean tech giant will use this equipment to produce the 220 PPI QD-OLED display panels intended for the iMac.In recent years, more monitor and PC brands have been launching devices with OLED panels, and demand for them continues to rise. Much of the credit goes to Samsung, whose QD-OLED panels have helped make OLED technology viable for monitors, a category where it was once considered both impractical and too expensive for mass-market adoption. Speaking of Samsung's QD-OLED panels, the brand recently introduced the Penta Tandem QD-OLED panels, which are being seen as a breakthrough in the segment.
