There aren’t many silver linings in the disastrous second Trump administration. But, if you stare at that inky black, ominous cloud, you might just see a little sunlight peeking around the edges. That’s the glimmer of the November midterms, with polling indicating that American voters are about to tell Trump and his goons exactly what they think of them. MAGA has nobody to blame for this but themselves. They betrayed their supporters by launching into yet another disastrous and costly war in the Middle East, Trump’s beloved tariffs have cost regular folk thousands of dollars, and Americans of all political persuasions are horrified by the unaccountable armed thugs who have murdered two innocent Americans (and maimed countless more). Then there’s the demand for $200 billion to fight Trump’s pointless war, money that should be spent on the “America First” philosophy Trump himself leaned on to return to office. More ominously, financial markets are currently in a death spiral due to the war, with $4.8 trillion erased from the S&P 500. I could go on, but the cherry on top of this rancid pie is Trump himself, who’s visibly collapsing into senility with increasingly incomprehensible pronouncements, combined with looking and sounding every one of his 80 years on this Earth. So it’s panic mode for MAGA. Now they’ve resorted to their tried-and-tested strategy. Yes, things are bad now, but imagine how much worse they’d be under the *ominous clap of thunder* D-D-D-Democrats! Apparently, the Dems are going to “destroy this country” JD Vance rocked up to deliver a vision of this nightmare world during an interview with Benny Johnson entitled “Saving Western Civilization by Fighting Demons“. Jeez, imagine how horrible it would be if a political party refused to take up a president’s nomination for the Supreme Court, then eliminated the filibuster for Supreme Court nominations to ensure that they got their way? Fortunately, you don’t have to tax our brain cells too hard, because this exact situation happened in 2016 when the GOP did it. MAGA politicians are visibly unnerved by the growing threats of prosecutions against them for their current actions, be that breaches of Americans’ constitutional rights, being held liable for deaths under their watch, or good old-fashioned financial corruption and insider trading. On this, at least they’re probably giving the Democrats too much credit. The Democratic establishment is simply too cowardly and weak to push forward prosecutions against MAGA figures – as proven by their hesitation when it came to prosecuting Trump himself during the Biden presidency. Remember, nobody is arguing that the Democrats are going to build paradise if they return to office. They will almost certainly be as inept as they’ve always been. But even that has to be better than this clown show.
