Why all this hype around Ryan Cherki every time he “farts”?

Wait 5 sec.

The guy had an absolutely mediocre, nothing performance against Arsenal, yet he comes off as if he dominated the game. The other day he did a couple of tricks with his feet against Calafiori and Martinelli without even dribbling past them, and suddenly there’s a flood of tweets claiming he “humiliated” them. It’s ridiculous. Pep Guardiola isn’t stupid. He doesn’t play him consistently because Cherki needs a very specific tactical setup to perform at his best. Without the ball, he’s basically useless. He’s not even effective as a winger, considering he’s not particularly quick. Apart from a few flashy but ultimately pointless tricks, he’s been largely invisible in every big match he’s played. He’s struggle in high-intensity UCL games because he’s too slow. The comparisons with Lamine Yamal are ridiculous. Even Estevao Willian looks more talented overall. Cherki might be slightly better technically, but Estevao has the athleticism Cherki completely lacks. Same goes for Doue and honestly, it shouldn’t even be a debate. But somehow Doue gets underrated and hated just because he’s not in the EPL. This whole thing just shows how low the bar has become in the Premier League if we have to hype every random player for doing almost nothing. Don’t get me wrong, I love aesthetic players. But that aesthetic has to be functional for the team otherwise, you’re just another Antony. submitted by /u/Window_Professional [link] [comments]
