Max Verstappen told a journalist to ‘get out’ before starting a press conference ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix. The four-time F1 world champion refused to start talking to the media until a member in attendance left the room.Verstappen booted a journalist out of a press conference in JapanGettyVerstappen spotted The Guardian’s Giles Richards at the press conference on Thursday and instantly pointed him out.He said: “One second, I’m not speaking before he’s leaving.”And after that brutal statement, a quick back-and-forth began between the Red Bull driver and the journalist.Verstappen wouldn’t back down despite Richards talking back to him, asking him to leave the room so he could start.Richards questioned the Formula One star on whether he was serious about his request on multiple occasions, before saying: “It’s because of the question I asked you in Abu Dhabi?”The 28-year-old then clarified that the question was the reason for his anger and stated: “Get out. Get out. Now we can start.”Why did Verstappen want the journalist out?Verstappen clearly still holds a grudge against Richards for something he asked him in Abu Dhabi last year. The journalist asked him whether he regretted an incident with Mercedes’ George Russell at the prior Spanish Grand Prix.He was given a 10-second penalty for the clash, which Nico Rosberg called ‘seriously bad’ and said he should have been disqualified for, accusing him of hitting into Russell on purpose. That penalty he received saw him lose nine points in the Drivers’ Championship standings and he eventually went on to lose the title by just two points to Lando Norris. The Dutchman wasn’t happy with the question he was asked last yearGettyVerstappen responded to that question by taking aim at Richards, replying: “You forget all the other stuff that happened in my season.“The only thing you mention is Barcelona. I knew that would come. You’re giving me a stupid grin now.“I don’t know. Yeah, it’s part of racing at the end. You live and learn. The championship is one of 24 rounds. “I’ve also had a lot of early Christmas presents given to me in the second half, so you can also question that.”According to the BBC, a source close to Verstappen has said he wanted Richards out of the press conference in Japan due to the way the question was asked and the following reaction last year.Richards is reported to now be writing an article for The Guardian on the incident to respond to the incident.Verstappen was not happy to start talking to the media before Richards leftAFPWhen is the F1 Japanese Grand Prix?Verstappen is going to be putting the press conference behind him at the Japanese Grand Prix this weekend. It will be taking place at Suzuka, with the action starting on Friday, March 27 and running until Sunday, March 29.Practice 1 and Practice 2 are held on Friday, before Practice 3 and qualifying for the race are on Saturday, March 28.The race is then scheduled for 6am UK time on Sunday.Jon Jackson will provide regular updates live on talkSPORT.To tune in to talkSPORT or talkSPORT 2 through the website, click HERE for the live stream. Listen via the talkSPORT app, on DAB digital radio, through your smart speaker and on 1089 or 1053 AM.
