Home Affairs and Employment Ministry has launched a new mandatory course for third-country nationals already living and working in Malta, focusing on Maltese culture and language. The course, which will be offered through licensed educational institutions, forms part of the government’s broader labour migration policy and is aimed at helping foreign workers better integrate into Maltese society.Applications can be submitted via the Identità website, while the final exam will be coordinated by the government’s Examinations Department.Attendance is compulsory, and participants must pass an exam covering topics such as Maltese traditions, civic responsibilities, legal awareness, personal development, and both Maltese and English language skills.According to Minister Byron Camilleri, the course is designed to ensure that foreign workers adapt to the country while contributing more effectively to the labour market. He said that those who successfully complete the course, or who are already trained, may qualify for a longer residence permit, extending from one year to two years, depending on other conditions. For workers in lower-skilled roles, completing the course and passing the exam will be required to be considered for the extended permit.Meanwhile, higher-skilled workers may be eligible for longer renewals based on training alone, with schemes such as the Key Employment Initiative (KEI), Special Employment Initiative (SEI), and the EU Blue Card allowing permits of up to three years in certain cases.Educational institutions interested in offering the course must notify Jobsplus, with the syllabus and assessment method already published alongside the announcement. The measure is intended to bring more structure and stability to Malta’s labour market, while encouraging stronger integration among foreign workers. What do you think of this?Video credits to @byroncamilleri View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lovin Malta (@lovinmalta)•
