Haggas Hands More Thunder Lockinge Target

Group winner More Thunder will train toward a start in the G1 Lockinge Stakes in May, according to trainer William Haggas.A winner of the G2 Hungerford Stakes, the son of Night Of Thunder ended his four-year-old season with a solid fourth-place finish in the G1 Prix de la Foret over seven furlongs on Arc Day. The one-mile Lockinge at Newbury takes place on May 16.Haggas said, “I'm very disappointed in the lack of opportunities over seven furlongs for a horse like him and in fact there is nothing, so we're aiming to start him in the Lockinge.“He won over a mile and a quarter as a three-year-old and it shouldn't be a problem the mile. We'll have to take him away somewhere just to get the freshness out of him, but the Lockinge is the plan.”Haggas also provided updates on two more stablemates–group scorer Merchant (Teofilo) and 'TDN Rising Star, presented by Hagyard' My Ophelia (Wootton Bassett). The former, a winner in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot, eked out a nose victory in the G3 Gordon Stakes before picking up an injury prior to an intended start in the G2 Prix Niel, and was benched in the interim.“Unfortunately he's injured and will be out until at least the autumn. It's the same tendon injury that ended his season last year,” explained Haggas.“He's on his way back, but it's a long haul. It would be the back-end of this season and 2027 we'll see him.”My Ophelia, a 1.7 million gns Book 1 graduate from Tattersalls October, has also sustained a minor setback and will not be seen on the racecourse in April. She is still possible for the G1 Betfred Oaks in June.“She has had a bit of a setback too and will miss April, but hopefully we can get a run into her in May then take it from there,” said Haggas.“She'll go for a trial, but I don't know which one yet as she's just on her way back and although she's absolutely fine, we have lost quite a bit of time. She shouldn't take much getting ready, but it's not been an ideal preparation.”The post Haggas Hands More Thunder Lockinge Target appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
