Maltese endurance runner Zach Vella has completed the first week of his 2,700-kilometre run from London to Malta, covering 356 kilometres and finishing the UK portion of his journey by reaching France on day three. In good spirits, Vella is now running south toward Switzerland, marking an important early milestone in the six-week ultra-endurance challenge. With 2,343 kilometres remaining, the journey continues to push both physical and mental limits, as Vella sustains an average of more than 50 kilometres per day across a variety of terrains.Vella is supported by a small logistics team handling tracking and daily coordination, ensuring he starts each leg safely and efficiently. Friends have also joined him along parts of the route, offering encouragement and solidarity. The challenge, titled “Miles from Home”, aims to raise €120,000 for YMCA Malta to support and expand services for people experiencing homelessness and vulnerability, including the Drop-In Centre, Ċentru Albert Degiorgio.Vella is expected to continue through France, before crossing into Switzerland and Italy on his way back to Malta.Donations can be made at https://homebound.mt or via Revolut at 79306655.
