It looked like sky was the limit for Dallas Cowboys cornerback DaRon Bland following the 2023 NFL season. In just his second season in the NFL, Bland led the league in interceptions and was named a Pro Bowler and First-team All-Pro.Bland parlayed his productive play that season into a monster extension prior to the 2025 campaign, but his play has plateaued as he’s been hampered by injury issues over the past couple of seasons. As a result, he was recently named Dallas’ most overpaid player by Brad Gagnon of Blecher Report."Quinnen Williams and Kenny Clark were also strong candidates with output that doesn't align with $20-plus million AAVs, but Bland is the clear-cut winner. The 2022 fifth-round pick has one good season under his belt, but that was enough to earn him a four-year, $90 million deal," Gagnon wrote. "He's missed significant time while being consistently rocked in coverage when on the field the last two seasons, all as the sixth-highest-paid corner in the sport." Despite his hefty price tag, Bland was the 44th-highest ranked cornerback in the league last season, per Pro Football Focus. That is obviously far from ideal. Bland still has several years remaining on his current contract, so the Cowboys have to hope that his play improves compared to the past couple of seasons. Otherwise, the team's decision to give him such a sizable deal is going to continue to age poorly.
