Night Of Thunder’s Ombudsman Much the Best in Dubai Turf

A model of consistency in Europe's premier middle-distance races throughout 2025, Godolphin's Ombudsman (Night Of Thunder) teed himself up perfectly for another productive campaign when making light of a five-month absence to run out a smooth winner of Saturday's $5-million G1 Dubai Turf Sponsored by DP World at Meydan.Bettered only by Calandagan (Gleneagles) when last seen filling the runner-up spot in a vintage edition of the G1 Champion Stakes at Ascot back in October, Ombudsman faced nothing of that calibre in this 1,800-metre contest and duly proved himself a notch above his 10 rivals.Settled in mid-division as Japanese raider Gaia Force (Kitasan Black) took the field along in the early stages, Ombudsman peeled wide under William Buick on the home turn to guarantee a clear run. Shaken up soon after, he then showcased his trademark turn of foot to gain what would ultimately prove a decisive advantage, leading home Quddwah (Kingman) and the running-on Andreas Vesalius (Caravaggio) by two lengths in a time of 1:47.46.“It's a great sense of relief,” joint-trainer John Gosden said of his fourth Dubai Turf triumph, having previously won three consecutive editions with Lord North (Dubawi) between 2021 and 2023. “It's not easy coming out of a winter in England and bringing a horse here ready to run. I think he'll come on for the race – he was probably coming in here at 90% – but he was fit enough to get the job done well.“I thought William was wise to give the ground away and go wide. He lost the ground there but got a clear run in the straight. We're absolutely thrilled with him.”Prior to chasing home Calandagan at Ascot, Ombudsman had won twice at the top level last year in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes and Juddmonte International, either side of a narrow defeat to Delacroix (Dubawi) in the Coral-Eclipse.Gosden confirmed that a return to Royal Ascot for the Prince Of Wales's Stakes was next on the agenda for Ombudsman, while the Dubai Turf is also a “Win and You're In” for the GI Breeders' Cup Mile at Keeneland in the autumn.  Ombudsman – too good in the Dubai Turf pic.twitter.com/dCrRbTNm1o— Racing TV (@RacingTV) March 28, 2026The post Night Of Thunder’s Ombudsman Much the Best in Dubai Turf appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
