Directed by Boaz Yakin, Remember The Titans was based on the real-life story of coach Herman Boone and the football team of TC Williams High School. While some elements are fictionalized for the film, it highlights what Boone achieved amid the racial tensions of the early 1970s.Boone was a high school football coach who started his teaching career in 1958. After leading his first team to several championships, he returned to his home state of North Carolina. In 1969, he was appointed the assistant head coach at TC Williams High School. During the same time, schools in Virginia were being integrated, which meant no separate schools for Black and white students. In a controversial move, Boone was made the head coach for the integrated team, which did not go very well with the parents or the town.ALSO READ: Director of this iconic movie almost went bankrupt; lead actor was fired, his replacement nearly died, its sets were destroyed, earned Rs 385 croreBut Boone did not care about race, and in order to ensure that the players get along, he took them for a football camp to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where the Battle of Gettysburg took place during the American Civil War.
