Philadelphia Eagles listed as one of NFL trade deadline's biggest winners

The Philadelphia Eagles are the defending Super Bowl champions and they currently sit atop the NFC standings with a 6-2 record. But that didn’t stop them from being extremely active leading up to the NFL trade deadline, as general manager Howie Roseman is on a never-ending search for ways to improve the roster.Roseman and the Eagles made a trio of trades to address major areas of need before the deadline hit. They acquired cornerback Michael Carter II, along with a 2027 7th-round pick, from the New York Jets in exchange for wide receiver John Metchie III and a 2027 6th-round pick. They also added cornerback Jaire Alexander, and a 2027 seventh-round pick, from the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick and edge rusher Jaelan Phillips from the Miami Dolphins for a third-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. The Birds needed help at corner and at edge, and they were able to bolster both positions with potentially high-upside additions. As a result, they were listed as one of the biggest winners of the deadline by James Dator of SB Nation. Here’s the rationale provided:“The Eagles made the kind of moves I would have liked to see from the Bills and Chiefs. Philly know it’s already a contender, but still made smart, high-upside deals to acquire an EDGE in Jaelen Phillips (for a 3rd round pick), and got CB Michael Carter II in the window for John Metchie III and a 6th round pick. These are the kind of smart additions that open the widow a little wider, and plug some holes.“It’s not just the moves the Eagles made, but the fact they didn’t have to overpay compared to the field.”Other listed winners include the New York Jets, who stockpiled some serious draft capital by flipping a few key contributors, and wide receiver Rasheed Shahid, who was traded from the hapless Saints to the contending Seahawks. To make things even better for Eagles fans, the hated Dallas Cowboys were listed by Dator as one of the biggest losers of the deadline after making a couple of splashy moves to improve the defense. Any opportunity to dunk on Dallas is appreciated by the Philadelphia faithful. Fresh off their Bye Week, the Eagles will head into the second half of their season well-rested and with reinforcements in tow. If the new additions can help to patch some of the defensive issues that have plagued the team so far, the Birds could be poised for another deep playoff run.
