The Bob Iger Second Farewell Tour began this week, as Iger sat down with British podcasters Tom Holland and Dominic Sandbrook on their “The Rest is History” podcast to discuss his legacy at Disney, Walt Disney’s legacy, and the company’s future.Iger took the two podcast hosts on a tour of Disney’s Burbank Studios and Disneyland, while also agreeing to do a sit-down interview with the duo. The most pressing topic of conversation was Iger’s legacy at Disney, as well as who would take the reins of the company after he left. While Holland and Sandbrook attempted to get a straight answer from Iger on who would be Disney’s next CEO, he deftly avoided the topic. Iger also stayed away from his first retirement and the disastrous tenure of former Disney CEO Bob Chapek, who was Iger’s hand-picked successor. A few months back, when reports surfaced that D’Amaro was the heir apparent, Iger quickly rebuffed those reports, saying that it was up to the Board to decide. Instead, Iger focused his interview on the future of the company and his 50-year legacy with The Walt Disney Company. At one point, Iger said that “Walt would be proud” of what Disney has become under his leadership. Iger reflected on what he had accomplished at Disney after replacing former CEO Michael Eisner. It was Iger who orchestrated Disney’s purchases of Pixar, Lucasfilm, Marvel, and 20th Century Fox. And quite a kingdom it is, and that I brought it to a place that even Walt would be proud of. And what that means is more great storytelling to a larger audience, more innovation, more risk-taking, more really creation of happiness. It’s really that simple,” Iger said. “At one point I thought, Well, OK, you’re now running Disney. What’s the most you want out of it? Well, not don’t screw it up, but it’s much more than that. I really have been mindful of the duty that I feel has been handed to me to make it even better than it’s ever been.”Iger also touched on new technology and Disney’s international ventures, but for the most part, the focus of the interview was on Iger’s legacy with the company. Iger will be leaving Disney for the final time at the end of 2026, but with the fanfare, expect his last victory lap to last for the next year. What will Bob Iger’s legacy at Disney be, in your opinion? Let us know in the comments.
