Disney Shutters Pirates Attraction for Years, Now Just “Decoration”

Wait 5 sec.

Fans are confused over the state of one Disney park attraction, which seems destined to become nothing more than a “decoration.”Attraction closures are nothing new at Disney parks. Rides and walk-through experiences routinely close for refurbishment, safety checks, weather damage, staffing adjustments, and sometimes full retheming, as will soon be the case for DINOSAUR at Animal Kingdom. Recent closures across parks worldwide have ranged from brief maintenance windows to multi-year overhauls that leave guests wondering if something will ever return.Credit: DisneyHowever, some closures feel less clear. These are the attractions that open sporadically, appear operational from a distance, and yet rarely welcome guests inside. This uncertainty has left fans frustrated, particularly when no formal explanation is provided by the resort.Disney Confuses Guests After Closing Pirates AttractionOne example now drawing attention is the Pirate Galleon at Disneyland Paris. Located in Adventure Isle – a sub-area of Adventureland – the ship is a large, detailed pirate vessel designed as a walk-through and play space rather than a ride. Though it sits near Pirates of the Caribbean, Jack Sparrow and co. are not part of the attraction, which has its own themed environment among caves, bridges, and lookouts.Credit: DisneyThe Galleon has been closed on and off for years, sparking ongoing speculation. One guest wrote on Reddit, “I have seen posts dating back to 2016 with people saying the Pirate Galleon is shut, and I was there in June 2025 and it was closed, and it still says it’s closed now. Does anyone know why they initially shut it, and do they actually have any plans to reopen it or will it just sit there as decoration forever?”There’s no notice on the Disneyland Paris website, where Disney says: “Jump aboard this famous Jolly Roger-flying galleon for an “all hands on deck” buccaneering blast. Arrr!”Some fans believe the weather plays a role. As one commenter explained, “The problem is usually weather. The wood gets slippery when wet, and people might fall and hurt themselves. Since Disney never really understood that European liability laws are very tame in comparison to those in the US… they tend to shut down everything as soon as any amount of rain has fallen.”Credit: DisneyHowever, others say the weather explanation doesn’t always line up with reality. Another guest pointed out, “Was there in August this year where it was in excess of 35 degrees for seven days in a row and not a single drop of rain fell all month and it was still closed then. What was the excuse during that time I wonder?”Maintenance concerns are also frequently discussed. One guest shared, “DLP doesn’t maintain anything on time, so things get damaged and become dangerous, and then they close them. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a structural integrity issue, and not just a problem of ‘slippery when wet’.” They went on to suggest staffing inconsistencies may also contribute. To complicate matters further, the Galleon has not been closed continuously. Some guests recall seeing it open in October, and others report spotting it accessible in 2022. However, we have not personally seen it open on any of our visits in 2024, 2023, 2020, or 2019.Credit: DisneyAdventure Isle as a whole is designed to encourage exploration, discovery, and play. When one of its centerpiece structures is rarely accessible, it alters the atmosphere, leaving what should feel alive and interactive instead appearing static.Whether the ship returns consistently, receives a restoration, or quietly becomes a permanent backdrop remains unclear. Disneyland Paris has not publicly announced long-term plans for the Pirate Galleon.Have you ever experienced Pirate Galleon? The post Disney Shutters Pirates Attraction for Years, Now Just “Decoration” appeared first on Inside the Magic.
