District Collector Sumit Kumar described blood donation as “one of the noblest acts of humanity”, noting that it not only saves lives but also fosters camaraderie and promotes good health among donors.He inaugurated a mega voluntary blood donation camp organised by the Indian Red Cross Society’s Chittoor branch at Sriranga Raja Puram in Gangadhara Nellore mandal near here on Friday. The programme was held to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, National Cancer Awareness Day, and 150 years of the national song Vande Mataram. Before the commencement of the event, the Collector rendered the Vande Mataram song.Addressing students, Mr. Sumit Kumar said that blood donation transforms an individual into a lifesaver and contributes to the larger welfare of society, paving the way for a more egalitarian world. He urged the youth and students to take the lead in spreading awareness about the importance of blood donation, while also focusing on education, upholding moral values, and engaging in community service.Over 500 students from various educational institutions in Chittoor and neighbouring mandals participated in the camp.Published - November 07, 2025 09:02 pm IST
