Travis Kelce reveals frustrations with concussion protocol as WWE star threatens to fight Chiefs star over Taylor Swift

Travis Kelce has revealed his frustrations over the NFL’s concussion protocol after he underwent testing in the Kansas City Chiefs’ loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 9. The 36-year-old Chiefs star took a shot in the end zone by Bills defensive Back Cole Bishop as he attempted to make a catch for what would have been a touchdown. Kelce was left frustrated after taking a shot in the Chiefs’s loss to the Buffalo BillsKelce reacted to the jeers from the Bills Mafia as he headed to the locker room in the first half of the Chiefs’ loss to the BillsGettyAfter going down to the ground for a minute as he regained his breath, he walked off the field gingerly with athletic staff on the stroke of half time. On the latest episode of his New Heights Podcast which his co-hosts with his brother, and former Philadelphia Eagles star center Jason, Travis revealed more about the process, and outlined what frustrated him about it. “It [the hit] knocked the wind out of me. It caught me — I got kind of sandwiched in there. You know you’re OK, but you gotta just kind of …” Kelce said whilst reenacting the act of catching his breath.“’Go into the blue tent. You got the wind knocked out,’” he recalled what he was told by a league official. “Why do I go into … No, it was at halftime. I had to get evaluated in the locker room. I just said, ‘Why, what is this?’ “‘What day is it?’ F***ing Sunday,” he continued. “What? … Before a concussion or after a concussion, I don’t know who we played last week. We’re in Week 9. Are you kidding me? You’re gonna make me sit here and f***ing … Who did we play last? The [Washington] Commanders.”The 10-time Pro Bowler also indirectly spoke on his interaction with the Bills Mafia – known for their dislike of the Chiefs franchise – as he made his way off the field, in which he cupped his hears and mouthed “I love it, I love it” as boos rang around the stadium. He gave them their props for talking trash, while also stating that it was an “honor” for him to get to play once more at Highmark Stadium, amid their imminent move to the New Highmark Stadium at Orchard Park in 2026. Kelce – who made franchise history in Kansas City’s Week 8 win against the Commanders with his 83rd career touchdown – was cleared to return to the game, and finished the outing with 66 yards from four receptions as the Chiefs suffered a 28-21 defeat to Josh Allen and co. WWE star doubles down on Taylor Swift commentsWhilst on the field Kelce has already cemented his place as one of the greatest tight ends of all time in his 13th season in the NFL, off the field he has gained global fame for his high-profile relationship – and now engagement – to Taylor Swift. The music sensation was on the end of a dig made by former WWE tag team champion Grayson Waller back in 2023 during an appearance on an episode of the now-defunct WWE web series titled “The Bump.”Kelce and Swift are one of the biggest power couples in sports and musicGettyGrayson Waller (R) joked about fighting Travis Kelce after comments he made about Taylor Swift in 2023Getty“If Travis Kelce is happy settling for a 6, good for him,” Waller said at the time. The 35-year-old wrestling star didn’t, however, expect to be confronted by none other than Kelce on those comments he had made two years prior. Sitting down on an episode of ‘INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet’ on Tuesday, Waller doubled-down on the line he delivered about Swift. “That’s a great line. I was pretty happy with that [upsetting Swifties],” Waller said. “But I doubled down on it too, because I think people get stressed about when you annoy the fan base, especially the Swifties… it was so fun. They were so angry and so upset.”He then spoke of how he didn’t think much else of the comments he had made until he attended a Tight End University party, the annual meeting of tight ends hosted by Kelce, San Francisco 49ers star George Kittle, and retired icon turned analyst Greg Olsen. “I went to the party, and then Swift and Travis Kelce were both there,” Waller told. “Now, in the back of my mind, she doesn’t know who I am, but I’m like, ‘oh, man, imagine if at some stage they’re scrolling through their phone and they’ve seen this idiot Australian has said a really rude thing’. The 35-year-old Australian doubled down on the comments he made about Swift due to enjoying the angry fan reactionGetty“So I’m a bit like, ‘man, I’m gonna have to fight Travis Kelce’. I’ve said multiple times, ‘I’ll fight Travis Kelce,'” Waller boasted. “And then I see how big tight ends are and how big he was, ‘I’m gonna win, but it’s gonna be a scrap’… “Kelce comes up. I was like, ‘Here we go’. But he was super nice, Cena-esque in the sense. Super chill. Chatted to us for a bit…So he was really cool.”Whilst Waller admitted he stuck around to attend the concert that evening which featured Swift who joined country singer Kane Brown to sing ‘Shake It Off’, he revealed that he only had a brief interaction with her.“Didn’t get to meet Taylor officially,” he added. “She did walk past me at some stage, and I had to move and go, ‘Oh, sorry’. And she said, ‘Thank you’. So I think that’s the reconciliation.”Stay up to date with the latest from the NFL across all platforms – follow our dedicated talkSPORT USA Facebook page and subscribe to our talkSPORT USA YouTube channel for all the offseason news, interviews and more.
