The NBA Cup is a tournament that takes place during the regular season, with results counting towards the overall season. It’s a multi-stage tournament that begins with a group stage followed by a single-elimination knockout round. The winning team receives the NBA Cup trophy but also a cash prize, with each player on the team receiving $530,933. The Cup allows teams to have competition-specific courts, different to those through the regular season. It serves to highlight the occasion of the cup even further, and they are designed by artist Victor Solomon. Each court has distinct team gradients and a trophy designs on each key and center court.Prior champions, the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers, will have the year they won it on the base of the trophy at center court. Timberwolves’ court criticized onlineThe Timberwolves debuted their NBA Cup court against the Utah Jazz on Friday, and the reaction has not been positive. The court’s floor was an eye-popping neon green that looked insanely bright on the broadcast. In fact, the reflection of the court was so bright that players and coaches had a shade of green projected onto their faces. The court did not do justice on the broadcast as the green of the floor was much brighterGETTYSome other NBA cup courts looked much betterGETTY“This gotta be the worst court in NBA history,” one fan wrote on X.“The Timberwolves NBA Cup court is the worse thing to ever happen in sports history,” another fan posted.“The Timberwolves have absorbed the gamma radiation from the court and become basketball Incredible Hulks,” another fan wrote.More comments ranged from comparing the court to Mountain Dew and Gatorade, to a general ‘My eyes’ complaint on the glaring brightness on display.Whatever the reaction, it seemed to help the Timberwolves who were far too strong for the Jazz as they stormed to a 137-97 victory – just their fifth win of the season and second on their own court.Anthony Edwards starred once again as he scored 37 points while also recording 5 rebounds, one steal and one block.View Tweet: https://t.co/wrD20iB5XC“It just brings energy. There’s a certain confidence we have as a group,” Julius Randle said of his teammate’s performance. “When he does stuff like that, the game seems to unfold the right way. Everybody’s in rhythm and all that stuff. It was good.”The Timberwolves are yet to go beyond the group stages of the NBA Cup in it’s two years on existence, their new home court might give them an additional advantage in their attempt to end that.Although it may have to come with a warning.Stay up to date with the latest from the NBA across all platforms – follow our dedicated talkSPORT USA Facebook page and subscribe to our talkSPORT USA YouTube channel for all the news, exclusives, interviews and more.
