/u/JesusGodLeah on Mutual aid is a wildly abused and reshaped concept

Exactly. I was under the impression that mutual aid means "I'll help my community in any way I can when someone needs something, and my community will help me in any way they can when I need something." The key is that no one person is always giving or always receiving. If you receive help and you're not currently in a position to give anything back, you pay it forward at some point in the future when you're doing better. Mutual aid does not mean, "I am entitled to receive a lot of money from multiple people without ever giving anything back, because I have no plans to ever have anything to give. In fact, next month when rent and bills become due, I will be demanding more money, and I will make it the community's problem that I cannot afford anything."
