Maltese ultra athlete Fabio Spiteri is about to take on one of the toughest endurance races on the planet, and he’s doing it for a cause close to his heart.Speaking from Brazil ahead of the challenge, Spiteri revealed that the Double Deca officially starts tomorrow at 1pm Malta time, with the goal of finishing the extreme race while raising €100,000 for animal shelters.The brutal ultra-endurance event is expected to take around three weeks, with Fabio saying he’ll only be sleeping around four hours a day if all goes to plan.Fabio must complete a 76km swim, the equivalent of one lap around Malta, followed by a staggering 3,600km bike ride, roughly four laps around Sicily, before finishing with an 844km run, another lap around Sicily.
