So I made the mistake of bringing in a birthday cake for my manager last month. It was a layered vanilla cake with cream cheese frosting, took me like 4 hours total including decorating. People loved it, great, whatever, i was happy to do it as a one-time thing.\ Now there's a woman on my team, let's call her Brenda, who apparently took note. Two days later she messages me asking if I'd be willing to make a cake for her son's birthday "as a favor." I said I wasn't really taking orders but maybe I could help with something simple. She then sends me a Pinterest board. A three-tier cake with hand-painted florals and a fondant topper of her son's favorite cartoon character. I said that's actually a pretty involved cake and would probably cost around $80-100 in materials alone if I were to make it. She replied "oh I was thinking more like a friendly favor, not like a paid thing." I kind of laughed it off and said sorry, that one's beyond what I can do as a favor. She said okay, no worries. Then last week someone in the office is leaving and Brenda sends a message in the team group chat - "maybe [my name] can make one of her famous cakes for Jen's sendoff :)" with like four people reacting with hearts before I even saw the message. I said I was pretty busy that week. Brenda then privately messaged me "it doesn't have to be anything fancy, just like a simple sheet cake, you probably have the ingredients at home already lol." I just left her on read honestly. Jen got a store cake and it was fine. But now Brenda keeps making little comments like "oh if only we had a REAL cake" every time someone brings in store-bought stuff. Yesterday she actually said to another coworker loud enough for me to hear "some people are so talented but so stingy with it." Like I genuinely enjoy baking but this women has decided my hobby exists to serve her and the office for free. I dont even know what I want from this post I'm just annoyed lol submitted by /u/CloveWisp [link] [comments]
