Karnataka has released a draft excise policy proposing to cut alcohol consumption by 8–9% over six years, while shifting towards lower-strength beverages and improving compliance. The draft, unveiled by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, suggests strength-based taxation, digital tracking of supply chains, and simplified licensing, alongside measures to curb illicit trade and restrict outlets near sensitive zones.
