PN Leader Alex Borg has opened up about grief, pressure and the reality of being a young political leader in a candid appearance on the Champions Connect Podcast.Speaking on the podcast, Borg reflected on how both he and the host could relate through being young people who had already taken on “hefty decisions” early in life.He also opened up about the personal tragedy that deeply shaped him, speaking about his father which was diagnosed with cancer six years before he passed away.“The loss of my father… that is the thing that shaped the person I am.”Borg said the experience helped form the resilience he carries today as one of Malta’s youngest major political figures.Opening up on public perception, Borg admitted that youth in leadership often comes with added scrutiny.“Sometimes I walk into a room and I feel misjudged.”He added that young people regularly face doubters and “naysayers all the time”, but insisted that criticism only fuels his determination.“People will always doubt, but I need to be strong enough and resilient enough to convince people that we’re doing something different.”Despite the pressure, Borg said he remains hopeful about the next generation and believes young people can drive real change.“I believe in the potential of the young generation. I believe in you.”He went on to praise ambitious young people who are courageous, willing to go all the way and stay resilient through setbacks, saying that shared mentality is what helps young people connect.Borg also spoke about the responsibility of leadership, saying political positions should be used to improve people’s lives.“When you’re in that position, you can actually bring positive change in people’s lives.”The interview offered a more personal side to Borg, who is often seen at the centre of Malta’s political spotlight.Do you think young leaders are judged more harshly?Video credits to @championsconnect_ View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lovin Malta (@lovinmalta)•
