Samsung has supplied OLED display panels for every Apple smartphone featuring the technology, from the first model to offer it—the iPhone X—to the latest, the iPhone 17 series. However, the South Korean tech giant hasn’t always been the only supplier; the iPhone X lineup remains the exception, where Samsung was the sole provider. The Cupertino-based company has also sourced OLED panels from other manufacturers, including LG Display and BOE, to mitigate supply chain risks. That said, Samsung could become the exclusive OLED supplier for Apple’s next-generation lineup—the iPhone 18 series—which is expected to mark the iPhone’s 20th anniversary.According to a new report from The Korea Herald, Apple could source displays for the iPhone 18 series exclusively from Samsung. If that turns out to be true, it would mark the first time since the iPhone X that Apple has entrusted the entire OLED panel supply to a single manufacturer.Recently, a tipster claimed that Apple has asked Samsung to develop an OLED panel for the iPhone 18 series that is polariser-free and curved on all four sides. To eliminate the need for a polariser, Samsung would have to use the color filter on encapsulation (COE) technology, which it already possesses. However, industry experts believe this type of display may not be ready for mass production in time.
