Some rifles are built for general use. Others are purpose-built to stretch distance and deliver consistency shot after shot. The Geissele MRGG MK1 falls firmly into the latter category, with roots in the U.S. SOCOM Very Long-Range Semi-Automatic Sniper System program. There aren’t too many of these around, but a local DMR match opened an opportunity to see one. Chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, this platform is designed around precision and repeatability, and it was in really good hands with this competitor. The system combines Geissele’s proprietary gas technology with a cold hammer-forged match barrel and a tuned internal setup aimed at reducing recoil and maintaining consistent cycling. Fully ambidextrous controls and a purpose-built bolt system round out the core of the rifle. The setup shown here leans fully into that role. Up top sits a Schmidt & Bender 5-45x PM II, paired with an A-Tec A-Flow suppressor to manage signature and recoil. Up front, the MDT CkyePod provides a stable shooting platform suited for long-range work. For details on the optic, check out TFB Review: Schmidt & Bender 5-45×56 PMII High Power Riflescope. This is TFB’s Photo of the Day, with a complete DMR Open-style setup, where rifle, optics, and support gear are all selected with one goal in mind: consistent performance at distance. There are brand new cars that cost less than this system, but they’re no good at the competition. What would your dream DMR Open setup look like? Interested in the rifle?
