With heavy rainfall continuing in Panchkula and the water level of the Ghaggar river rising dangerously, the police have intensified monitoring to prevent mishaps (Express Photo)The Panchkula District Administration has issued a public advisory in view of continuous rainfall across Panchkula and the forecast of further showers in the coming days.Deputy Commissioner Monika Gupta said that due to heavy rainfall, water has entered several schools in Morni, Raipur Rani, and Barwala. As a precautionary measure, holidays have been declared in 17 affected schools on Saturday, August 30.According to the advisory, all 14 bhojs (revenue estates) of Morni remain vulnerable to landslides and possible road blockages. The administration has strictly advised visitors to avoid unnecessary travel to Morni until conditions improve.People have also been warned against venturing near rivers — including Tangri, Ghaggar, and Kaushalya — and rivulets, as sudden rise in water levels and flash floods cannot be ruled out. The bridge connecting Barwala Industrial Area (HSIIDC) to nearby villages such as Khatauli has suffered damage, and commuters have been directed to use alternative routes.The administration has asked gaushala authorities to stay on alert with adequate stock of fodder and medicines while residents in low-lying areas have been advised to take precautions against possible waterlogging. In hilly areas, the risk of landslides remains high, and travellers have been urged to avoid vulnerable routes.The Deputy Commissioner said the situation is being closely monitored and necessary arrangements are in place to safeguard life and property. Acting swiftly on the information, PCR team along with Sector-21 Chowki in-charge Didar Singh and his team rushed to the spot and safely moved the children away from the riverbank. Police officers counselled the children and locals, warning them about the dangers of strong currents.DCP Srishti Gupta has appealed to parents to keep a close watch on their children and not allow them near rivers or drains.
