Written by Atri Mitra Kolkata | August 30, 2025 01:14 AM IST 2 min readTMC MP Mahua Moitra (Express Archives)TMC MP Mahua Moitra has sparked a fresh political controversy after her remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing him of failing to check infiltration from Bangladesh.The BJP hit out at Moitra for her “distasteful and objectionable remarks”.According to local BJP leaders, Moitra made the remarks while addressing a party programme in her constituency at Krishnanagar. “They are repeatedly talking about infiltrators; but the country’s border is protected by five forces and that is directly the Home Ministry’s responsibility,” she is purportedly heard saying in a video that surfaced on social media.She said, “If we don’t have anyone to protect our borders, if people from another country are entering every day, if our citizens complain that infiltrators are eyeing our mothers and sisters and snatching our land…”The BJP on Friday hit out at Moitra and questioned whether this was the TMC’s official stand.The party’s Krishnanagar North organisational district spokesperson, Sandip Majumder, filed an FIR against Moitra at the Kotwali police station in Kolkata.The party’s former state unit president and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar said, “After seeing Mahua, you will come to know that it is not a must that someone who knows English is properly educated.”Story continues below this adBJP leader Rahul Sinha said, “The distasteful and objectionable remarks only reflect the mindset of the person and the TMC. We would like to know, is this the official line of the TMC?
