An average of 2,13,390 rides per day were recorded in the month on both the Purple and Aqua lines combined, according to the Pune Metro website as of Wednesday. This is a notable increase from the numbers recorded in July (1,92,204) and June (1,74,702).As reported by The Indian Express, the Pune Metro had already seen a significant increase in average daily rides in July, as compared to the average daily rides of the previous 10 months. From September 2024 to June 2025, the Metro recorded 1,54,652 average daily rides, which jumped to 1,74,702 in June and to 1,92,204 in July. The Metro has seen a further boost from August 1 to August 27 with 2,13,390 average daily rides, even before the Ganesh festival.Hemant Sonawane, Executive Director (Administration & Public Relations) at Maha Metro, the implementing agency of all Metro projects in Maharashtra, attributed a few different reasons to this increase, including the increase in peak-hour frequency to six minutes from the earlier seven minutes. An increase in frequency means that more trains run in the same amount of time, facilitating a greater number of passengers to travel during the peak hours. He said that promotion of schemes like the student card has also helped increase ridership numbers.“This is also the season when so many people come to Pune.
