This weekend brings us a promising slate of Premier League matches, plus a handful of historic derbies elsewhere, before the chaos of Deadline Day on Monday. We’ll be back next Friday to guide you through the international break and all the World Cup Qualifiers you need to follow.Sunday gives us the Premier League’s first clash between title contenders, with both clubs entering the weekend with some questions to be answered. For their sake, Liverpool barely escaped 10-man Newcastle earlier this week, and it’s unclear if their defence is stern enough to retain the title. In contrast, Arsenal have begun the season with two clean sheets, but will be without Bukayo Saka and potentially Martin Ødegaard in attack due to injuries last week. That means some reshuffling of their starting XI, and likely Eberechi Eze’s debut as the Gunners’ new number 10.These two sides have played to four draws in their past five Premier League meetings, so we could end the weekend without a definitive pacesetter.Early signs indicate that Tottenham’s hiring of Thomas Frank could be one of the signings of the season. The Dane’s tactical flexibility, in-game management skills, and emotional intelligence could be what is needed to transform an uneven Spurs squad into the league’s dark horses. Two consecutive clean sheets to begin the campaign is a promising foundation, after keeping only six clean sheets all of last season. And now, depending on the result of Arsenal vs. Liverpool, we could head into the first international break with Spurs as early table-toppers should they beat Bournemouth. The Cherries, on the other hand, are still an unknown prospect. They had their backline whisked away in the transfer window and last season’s top scorer and provider, Justin Kluivert, is only just returning from injury. However, Antoine Semenyo is off to a fast start in Kluivert’s absence, with two goals and an assist making him one of the league’s early in-form attackers. On Friday night, the lights of Volsparkstadion shine on their first top-flight Hamburg derby in fourteen years. A century old rivalry that has been simmering in 2.Bundesliga over recent seasons, with city giants Hamburger SV returning to Germany’s top table after a seven-year absence. For the first time in their history, despite enjoying their reputation as outcasts and underdogs, it’s arguably St Pauli that approach the derby from a place of superiority. 57,000 fans will be there to see it all unfold in Germany’s second city. The Old Firm had some week in Europe. Celtic tripped up against Kazakh opposition to fall into the Europa League, and Rangers will join them after being battered 9-1 on aggregate by Club Brugge.Rangers haven’t had it any better on home soil, drawing each of their first three Premiership matches. However, despite Celtic’s recent dominance in the Scottish Premiership, they haven’t won at Ibrox in their last three tries. Either way, Sunday could be a season-defining moment for both clubs.Pro Tip: Click on any of the matches below, then tap the star in the top right of the match page to add them to the top of your Matches list.Friday: The Hamburg Derby is the headliner Friday, but there’s also a big matchup in the Championship, as promotion hopefuls Birmingham City visit Leicester City, who hope to bounce back to the Premier League, despite a likely points deduction for alleged PSR breaches.
