Trump also said that the US will not tolerate trade deficits and unfair tariffs imposed by other countries on it, which undermine its labourers. (Photo: Reuters)Donald Trump Saturday clarified that all forms of tariffs imposed on multiple countries will continue to remain in effect even as a federal appeals court ruled that the US President had no legal right to impose such sweeping tariffs.Calling the US court’s decision “incorrect”, Trump said: “If these Tariffs ever went away, it would be a total disaster for the Country.”In a post on social media platform Truth Social, the US President wrote: “ALL TARIFFS ARE STILL IN EFFECT! Today a Highly Partisan Appeals Court incorrectly said that our Tariffs should be removed, but they know the United States of America will win in the end. If these Tariffs ever went away, it would be a total disaster for the Country. It would make us financially weak, and we have to be strong.”Trump’s clarification comes after the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit on Friday ruled that the President had “no legal right to impose sweeping tariffs,” and declare national emergencies, however, it left in place for now his effort to build a protectionist wall around the American economy, news agency AP reported. In its decision, the US court largely upheld a May decision by a specialized federal trade court in New York. But the court on Friday tossed out a part of that ruling striking down the tariffs immediately, allowing his administration time to appeal to the Supreme Court, AP report stated. The Trump administration has imposed steep 50 per cent tariffs on Indian goods exports, beginning August 27. As of 2024, the US accounted for around 18 per cent of India’s total exports, a rise from 15 per cent in 2017 and 11 per cent during the lows of the post-financial crisis in 2010, according to a report in The Indian Express. The US also announced blanket ‘retaliatory’ tariffs of 145% on Chinese imports, to which China slapped 125% in countermeasures. However, Trump sought to downplay this discriminatory tariff policy, telling reporters mid-August that he did not immediately need to consider retaliatory tariffs against China but would probably take a call “in two or three weeks.” The share of Chinese exports going to the US has declined from 20 per cent to 14 per cent since 2017, as Beijing consciously diversified its export basket.Story continues below this adTrump on Saturday asserted, in his post, that the US will not tolerate trade deficits and unfair tariffs imposed by other countries on it, which undermine its labourers. “The U.S.A. will no longer tolerate enormous Trade Deficits and unfair Tariffs and Non Tariff Trade Barriers imposed by other Countries, friend or foe, that undermine our Manufacturers, Farmers, and everyone else. If allowed to stand, this Decision would literally destroy the United States of America,” Trump wrote. He also reassured that the imposition of tariffs on different countries will benefit US labourers and companies involved in manufacturing products in the nation. He added: “At the start of this Labor Day weekend, we should all remember that TARIFFS are the best tool to help our Workers, and support Companies that produce great MADE IN AMERICA products. For many years, Tariffs were allowed to be used against us by our uncaring and unwise Politicians. Now, with the help of the United States Supreme Court, we will use them to the benefit of our Nation, and Make America Rich, Strong, and Powerful Again!”Stay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© IE Online Media Services Pvt LtdTags:donald trump
