Samsung has an app that most Galaxy users outside China have probably never heard of, but now, everyone can give it a spin. The app is called Collection, and while it’s officially exclusive to Galaxy devices in China running Android 14/One UI 6 or later, a leaked APK (courtesy of GalaxyTechie) means you can install and try it yourself. What is the Collection app?Collection is like an all-in-one information management hub where you can collect text, images, documents, and more for quick access later on, all from a single app. These are organized based on the content type and even the app they came from (e.g.: copying text from a webpage in Google Chrome will put it under the Chrome folder). The app can automatically analyze the text or screenshots you save and suggest useful actions. For example, if you collect a schedule, it might offer to add it directly to your calendar. If you save flight details, it could suggest checking live flight status. You can also create summaries using Galaxy AI of text, whether it's saved as actual text or is part of a saved image.Collection can also detect apps best suited to the content you save. When you drag text, images, or documents, a pop-up panel appears showing compatible apps where you can drop that content. For instance, you can drag a block of text into ChatGPT or Google Gemini. Holding and dragging an image might let you share it via Quick Share, add it into a note, run a Google Image Search, or even drop it into Galaxy AI’s Drawing Assist, where you can ask the AI to create artistic versions of the picture. What works? What doesn't?Since the app isn’t officially available outside China, its features don’t all work as intended. What you get also depends on the One UI version running on your device. For example, on One UI 8, you’ll see the Galaxy AI summary option, but the drag-and-drop app panel isn’t available. On One UI 7, it’s the opposite. The app panel works, but there’s no summary option. Some of the functionality Samsung highlights for Chinese users is also missing. For instance, if you save text that contains an event or reminder, the app doesn't recognize it and therefore doesn't suggest adding it to the Calendar or Reminder app. In short, while you can save content to Collection, its true utility is limited unless you have official access. For now, the app mostly lets you drag text and images into other apps via the panel or use text-to-speech playback for saved content. How to try it out?You will first need to download the APK file for the app from this link, copy it to your phone, and install it manually by opening it via the My Files app (or any other file manager). If your device has Auto Blocker enabled, you will have to disable it to be able to install the app (do that from the Settings » Security and privacy menu).Once installed, the app won't immediately be visible in the app drawer. To change that, go to the Settings » Advanced features » Collection menu and enable the Shortcut option to add the app's shortcut to the app drawer. Then, open the app from the app drawer and go through the greeting screen and allow it the required permissions to start using it. How to add things to Collection? You cannot directly collect or add content from within the app. Instead, Collection will show up in the list of available apps whenever you try to using the standard share option for text, images, or other supported data. You can, however, remove stuff from within the app, as you would expect, with the option to select multiple content all at once. The app also categorizes content into different folders, as mentioned earlier. Is Collection coming to Galaxy users outside China?Collection is an interesting app that shows how Samsung is experimenting with Galaxy AI in practical ways. However, it's unclear if Samsung intends to bring it to users globally anytime soon. The app isn't exactly something the company has even advertized unlike many of its other proprietary offerings, so we wouldn't keep our hopes up.
