Newcastle near club-record deal for Germany international

Newcastle United have agreed a £69m club-record deal to sign Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade.Eddie Howe is closing in on the signing of the Germany international in a huge boost, following a frustrating summer in the transfer market.Woltemade had been a target for Bayern Munich but the German champions were unable to agree a fee with their Bundesliga rivals. Newcastle have now swooped in with an agreement reached.The Magpies will pay an initial £65m fee for the 23-year-old, potentially rising to £69m with add-ons. The 6ft 6in forward was named Bundesliga Newcomer of the Season after scoring 17 times in all competitions.Woltemade was the tournament’s leading scorer as Stuttgart won the DFB-Pokal, ending an 18-year trophy drought, before winning the Golden Boot at this summer’s u-21 European Championship.He has scored 13 goals in 18 games for Germany at u-21 level and has won two senior caps.
