Worried fans think they know the next big Dallas trade after Micah Parsons joins Luka Doncic in leaving city

Wait 5 sec.

Dallas sports fans must be trembling. It has been a year to forget, especially for fans of the NBA‘s Dallas Mavericks and iconic NFL team, the Dallas Cowboys.Mavs fans were shocked to the core when they lost Luka Doncic to the LakersGetty An even stronger sense of pity goes out to those fans who are devoted to both of them.Dallas lost two stars in six monthsHearts were in mouths in February when NBA insider Shams Charania announced the late-night blockbuster trade that involved Luka Doncic being dealt from the Mavs to the Los Angeles Lakers. The news came as such a shock that many fans, media members, and NBA players thought that the ESPN senior insider had been hacked – nobody could quite believe it. Charania later admitted that his hands were shaking before dropping the tweet that broke the sporting metaverse.Once the terms of the trade were revealed, though, Mavericks fans went into a full meltdown, with it only taking Anthony Davis, Max Christie and the Lakers’ 2029 first-round pick to tempt general manager Nico Harrison to finalize the deal. An onslaught of abuse began being fired his way, but Harrison stood pat on his decision to trade away a generational talent, despite the 26-year-old Slovenian having virtually single-handedly led the Mavs to the 2024 NBA Finals just the season prior. “I believe that defense wins championships,” Harrison told ESPN’s Tim MacMahon in February. “I believe that getting an All-Defensive center and an All-NBA player with a defensive mindset gives us a better chance. We’re built to win now and in the future.”Davis may be a 10-time All-Star, but the 32-year-old has seen his career plagued by injuries over the last few years and he went down on debut and wound up suiting up just nine times for Dallas that season. With Mavs fans still reeling from losing Doncic just six months ago, they have now been dealt a double-blow with the news that Cowboys edge Micah Parsons was traded to the Green Bay Packers. Not only did Dallas lose a player who is undoubtedly on a Hall of Fame trajectory, but they bolstered an NFC rival in the process. Now Dallas fans have to contend with the loss of star pass rusher ParsonsGettyAdd to that Jerry Jones arguably didn’t even maximise his trade value, receiving just Kenny Clark and two future first-round picks. Parsons, who is only just entering his prime, has played just four seasons in the NFL, and has been named a Pro Bowler on all four occasions. Having finished his career in Dallas with 52.5 sacks, 256 tackles, 63 tackles for loss and 112 quarterback hits, Parsons also has three All-Pro honors to his name. The decision made by Jones to even consider trading away Parsons was viewed by many to be a huge blunder, with Cowboys legend Michael Irvin left eating his words after having confidently proclaimed that a trade would never happen before the news broke just one minute later.Fans are calling to protect both Paige Bueckers and Cooper FlaggWith two stars out of the sporting city, fans are worried that some of their other stars could follow a similar trend. Of course, the Doncic trade kicked off a domino effect that saw the Mavs fail to qualify for the 2024-25 NBA playoffs, giving them a mere 1.8 percent chance – the third-fewest odds – to claim the number one overall pick in the 2025 draft. View Tweet: https://t.co/a8QmrlagDiDallas’ fortunes changed somewhat when they drafted Flagg with the No. 1 overall pickGettyFans are hoping Bueckers doesn’t follow the trendGettyIn circumstances that are scarcely hard to believe – even to Harrison – Dallas defied the odds and won the lottery, giving them a prime opportunity to draft Duke standout Cooper Flagg and a second chance at building a franchise around a star.In similar fashion over in the WNBA, the Dallas Wings clinched the No. 1 overall pick after a dismal 9-31 record – the second-worst record in the league ahead of only the 8-32 LA Sparks. Their reward for having such a poor 2024 campaign was to draft Paige Bueckers, who was coming off the back of just having won the NCAA National Championship with the UConn Huskies. Since her arrival, Bueckers has been a rose among a roster of thorns, with the rookie having led the team in points per game (18.9), assists (5.4) and steals (1.6).In response to the news of the Parsons trade, fans were quick to react about other Dallas sports stars. “Protect Paige Bueckers,” one user wrote on X, which prompted a comment from another user which said, “And Cooper Flagg. These contract extensions are killing these GMs’ brains.”Bueckers has had a stunning rookie campaignGetty“Paige Bueckers about to get traded at this rate, sorry Dallas fans,” another wrote.“IF YOU ARE A DALLAS SUPERSTAR PLEASE GET TO A SECURE LOCATION. GOODBYE Micah Parsons. CHANCELLOR JERRY JONES IS THE WORST EXECUTIVE IN DALLAS, TEXAS. SOMEONE PROTECT PAIGE BUECKERS,” a third wrote.Really racking my brain through sports history, but one city’s fanbase losing two massive stars in shocking trades in different sports is totally unprecedented,” journalist Joon Lee wrote. “Cooper Flagg and Paige Bueckers eases the blow, but what an insane sports year for Dallas.”The silver lining is that Bueckers is only 23-years-old, and has three more years before the Wings could follow suit and trade her, at least according to the conspiracy theorists out there with Doncic just weeks away from turning 26, and Parsons being 26 when they both got traded.Flagg, on the other hand, is just 18-years-old, so there is plenty of time yet for the Mavericks to maximize his talent before Harrison even considers the idea of making a controversial deal.Nonetheless, Dallas fans will be holding their breath for the foreseeable.
