PMC bags first place among state’s civic bodies in e-governance reform campaign

The PMC was bestowed this recognition during an interim review conducted by Chief Minister Devendra Fadanavis on Friday.Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) was recently recognised as the best performing municipal corporation in the Maharashtra government’s 150-day e-governance reform campaign. However, activist Vivek Velankar demanded that the PMC make effective use of the SAP software it purchased to increase efficiency in the Finance and Stores department of the civic body.The PMC was bestowed this recognition during an interim review conducted by Chief Minister Devendra Fadanavis on Friday.While presenting a progress report, PMC chief Naval Kishore Ram highlighted the successful rollout and adoption of several key digital initiatives aimed at enhancing administrative efficiency and the effective delivery of citizen services.Other highlights included the PMC’s website and mobile apps, wherein the civic body has developed a new, mobile-friendly website with 36 micro-sites available in both Marathi and English. It has seen over 67 lakh visitors annually. PMC also developed multiple citizen-centric mobile applications, including PMC Care, Road Mitra, and PMC ISWM, the PMC chief said.A total of 97 services have been officially notified under the Right to Services Act by PMC. Of these, 89 services are available online and are targeted at providing citizens with redressals within a stipulated time frame. Last year more than 2.25 lakh services were delivered to citizens.For redressals, citizens can register their grievances through a complaint portal which has 10 different channels to do so. These include mobile apps, WhatsApp and social media. A total of 1.15 Lakh complaints were resolved in the last year.Since June 2025, PMC’s entire workflow has been transitioned to an e-office system. The system has over 2,500 active users which include PMC officers and staff.Story continues below this adRegarding adopting advanced technology, Naval Kishore Ram highlighted that PMC has used GIS for its Road Asset Management System (RAMS) and Integrated Works Management System (IWMS).At the progress report presentation, the PMC said that through Data and Analytics, the development of a central dashboard with 500 key performance indicators (KPIs) across 40 departments was underway, with 20 dashboards already completed for decision-making. It has started a Commissioner War Room called “PMC Spark” to track 50 priority infrastructure and social projects to be reviewed fortnightly.The PMC has also integrated AI and advanced technology. This includes a PMC chatbot on the website and WhatsApp which provide citizens with easy access to information. The civic body also uses WhatsApp to broadcast information to citizens while a chatbot is used on the app to distribute property tax bills and notices to citizens. PMC has pioneered the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) by deploying a voice bot to assist with the collection of property tax from defaulters. The corporation also plans to collaborate with prestigious institutes for Complaint Predictive Analysis, Social Media Sentiment Analysis and other AI Initiatives.“The successful implementation of these projects has made the PMC a leader in e-governance reforms in the state of Maharashtra. The Corporation remains committed to completing the pending tasks from the 150-day program and continuing to leverage technology for the benefit of its citizens,” said Ram.Story continues below this adCivic activist Vivek Velankar, while congratulating the PMC, said that the civic had bought SAP software for its official work in 2017 at a cost of Rs 8 crore. “The SAP system is an advanced software tool that gives good results. It was suppose to increase efficiency in the Finance and Stores department of PMC but unfortunately its not being used completely.
