Mohamed Salah has praised Arne Slot for his ability to heed transfer advice from him, though he knows not to overstep the mark. The Egyptian and Slot have enjoyed a great working relationship over the past year, winning the Premier League title and respecting each other greatly. In an interview with Sky Sports, Salah spoke of his appreciation for his head coach listening to his transfer musings, admitting he also knows not to get too involved as a player.“I think I had a conversation with him before I renewed about that, and also in the beginning of the season, but I don’t tell him, ‘Oh boss, we need that’,” Salah said. “Before I renewed, I needed to know the whole plan, but after I stayed, was asking him just out of curiosity.“I know my role, I know he is the manager and he needs to decide what he wants, what position.“But to be fair, the thing I admired the most about him is that he gave me the space to give my opinion and to tell him what I see in the team, what can we improve.“Even if I look at that now, I feel like if I went and told tell him ‘we need this guy in this position,’ I think he would listen a lot and that’s something I really, really appreciate.”As a player of eight years at Liverpool, and one of the true leaders in the squad, Salah is a hugely experienced figure with so much advice to offer. He spoke about his change of role at Anfield, discussing the responsibility he now takes on compared to in the past.“When I came here first, I just wanted to do my job, go to the gym and focus on my craft so much,” he added.“The rest, ‘Hendo needs to sort it’, Milly (Milner) needs to sort it’, but now you just try and see it from a different perspective.“You see the players coming in disappointed [to training] and I say, ‘Come and get coffee and we speak’.“My role has changed and my personality has changed – now I’m more grown up.”It is refreshing to hear that Slot will discuss transfers with Salah, with some managers wanting to keep a distance from their players on such matters.Meanwhile, the manner in which Salah has grown as the years have passed has been remarkable, with the forward a genuine leader on and off the pitch, knowing the importance of his role.
