A three-year-old elephant calf found in a weak condition at Kottapara in Aralam Farm died on Friday (August 29, 2025) night while under the observation of forest department officials.The calf, found near the Kottapara Jalanidhi tank during a routine patrol on Friday evening, was given immediate care as per veterinary instructions. However, despite arrangements for a specialist team of veterinarians to begin treatment on Saturday (August 30, 2025) morning, the elephant was declared dead around 11.15 p.m. during an examination by the officials.The officials said the carcass would be subjected to post-mortem procedures under the Wild Animal Mortality Audit Framework protocol. The exact cause of death would be known only after the autopsy, they added.Earlier, a skeleton of an adult elephant was also found in the area.
