Why pundits believe Arsenal can finally win at Anfield after 13 years

Wait 5 sec.

On Sunday afternoon, last season’s Premier League top two renew their rivalry at Anfield, as Liverpool host Arsenal on Merseyside. It is still early in the season, but this fixture will undoubtedly have repercussions in the 2025-26 title race.Beyond the title implications, much has been said about this clash, but of all the commentary, Gooners will love what Paul Merson and Chris Sutton appear to agree on.Liverpool vs Arsenal predictionsBoth pundits agree on one key point heading into this game, that Arsenal control their fate. And both are convinced Arsenal’s new man Eberechi Eze, if he lives up to his billing, makes it unlikely the Gunners will lose to Liverpool. As reported by Sportskeeda, Merson insists Arsenal must go all out against the Reds. He argued:“If Arsenal play like they did against Manchester United, they have no chance, and they will get blown away at Anfield.“I don’t think Arsenal will be that poor though… Eberechi Eze should start this game, and he’s a top player.“Sometimes, when Liverpool go attack, attack, attack, it can be relentless for their opponents. That’s where you need players like Eze to keep hold of the ball.“So if they play like they did at Old Trafford, this game will be over by half-time.”It is clear Arsenal need to take the game to Liverpool. Sitting back will only hold them back, just as it did against Manchester United. If the Gunners press relentlessly, Sutton believes Arne Slot’s side will not cope, especially given how exposed Liverpool’s defence has looked, particularly down the left-hand side.As quoted by the BBC, Sutton predicted a 2-1 win for Arsenal:“My worry with Liverpool is exactly what Arne Slot talked about in pre-season. They’re too defensively vulnerable.“They’ve already conceded four goals. Ibrahima Konaté looks shot to pieces and has been all over the place in the last two games. He’s been a great player in the past for Liverpool, but right now, he looks like a triallist.“If you’re a Liverpool fan, I guess the good thing is your side are still getting results. But if you want to win league titles, you’ve got to be watertight and strong at the back, and I’m not so sure Liverpool are.“Liverpool got bullied by Newcastle. There’s no reason why Arsenal can’t bully them, too. I’ve just got a sneaky feeling that Arsenal, bolstered by new signing Eberechi Eze, will exploit them.”Eze (Photo by Justin Setterfield/Getty Images)Attack wins Arsenal the gameFrom both pundits’ views, it is clear this is a game that rests in Arsenal’s hands. If Arteta’s team go all out and attack as Merson and Sutton suggest, they should be able to punish the Reds. The Gunners could finally claim their first league win at Anfield since 2012. Not only that, if they succeed, it would mark only the second time in the last 20 years that Arsenal have won their opening three league games, a feat they last achieved in the 2022-23 seasonDaniel O__________________________________________________________________________________________ADMIN COMMENTSo here are some simple rules which I must insist commenters follow….You agree not to give any personal abuse to other Arsenal fans.
