(File Photo)An FIR has been registered against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra in Chhattisgarh’s capital Raipur for allegedly making “objectionable” remarks about Union Home Minister Amit Shah.The case was filed on a complaint by Raipur resident Gopal Samanto. Moitra, the MP from Bengal’s Krishnanagar constituency, was booked on Saturday evening under Sections 196 (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc.) and 197 (imputations prejudicial to national integration) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Raipur Superintendent of Police Lal Umed Singh said.The remarks were made in Bengali during an interaction with the media on Thursday. Moitra allegedly accused Shah of shirking his responsibilities on border security.According to local BJP leaders, Moitra made the remarks while addressing a party programme in her constituency. “They are repeatedly talking about infiltrators; but the country’s border is protected by five forces and that is directly the Home Ministry’s responsibility,” she is purportedly heard saying in a video shared on social media.“If we don’t have anyone to protect our borders, if people from another country are entering every day, if our citizens complain that infiltrators are eyeing our mothers and sisters and snatching our land…” she added.Samanto, the complainant, told reporters that many Bangladeshi refugees have lived in Raipur’s Mana Camp area since 1971, and Moitra’s comments had created fear among them.
