18, moving to Joburg to build my agency — which area + how to find the right roommates?

Wait 5 sec.

I’ll be real with you — I’m 18 and I’ve decided to go all in on building my lead generation agency. I know it won’t be easy — this path is tougher and lonelier than most people think — but I’ve accepted that. I also know environment dictates everything. That’s why I want to move into an area next year (Fourways, Sandton, Midrand, Morningside, or similar) where wealth, ambition, and opportunity are in abundance. I want to place myself somewhere that forces me to operate at a higher level. I’m not naïve about survival: my family will help cover part of rent for the first 6 months while I get established (it’s limited backing, not a free ride). I’ll do bike deliveries and possibly part-time work to generate steady cashflow and save for rainy days — and I plan to scale to covering rent myself after 6 months as the agency gains traction. I’m also improving my marks and doing short courses to keep a safety net and strengthen uni entry — education matters to me, but the agency is the main focus. 👉 Two asks: 1. Which neighbourhoods in Joburg would you recommend for someone who needs affordable access to wealth/opportunity (Fourways, Sandton, Midrand, Morningside — or others I should consider)? 2. Where’s the best place to find focused roommates who won’t be constant distractions (Facebook groups, university classifieds, noticeboards, Gumtree/OLX, property portals)? Or — is it smarter to avoid roommates entirely if they’ll drag me down? I’m open to living with my brother or alone if roommates aren’t a fit. I’m serious about this — not asking for handouts, just local, practical advice so I don’t make the wrong move. submitted by /u/stampothestar [link] [comments]
