Although both those events start in August, squeezing the Halloween season into the summer. For both parks, the crowds start to return too as the weather begins to get more seasonal. However, just as the crowds start to return after a slow summer, Disneyland is starting its yearly refurbishment calendar, shutting down 13 rides throughout the parks. The headliner is the shutdown of the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad on September 2. The Disneyland version of the ride will join its sister attraction at Magic Kingdom, which is closed for the majority of 2025. However, unlike the Disney World version of the ride, Disneyland’s Big Thunder Mountain is expected to reopen in early October.Credit: Flickr/Joe PennistonMuch like Big Thunder Mountain, both parks will be silent for most of September, and Rivers of America will be silent periodically throughout September. The Mark Twain Riverboat will be closed for refurbishment on September. 8-11, and the Sailing Ship Columbia will close September 2-4, 8-11, and 22-25.Joining the list of closures includes Dumbo the Flying Elephant (September 16-17), Pirates’ Lair on Tom Sawyer Island (September 15-17), Pixie Hollow in Fantasyland will be closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays in September, “Fantasmic” will be dark September 2-4, September 8-11, September 14-18, September 21-25 and September 28-30, and The Main Street Cinema will close from September 8-25.
