The BPharm admissions in Maharashtra remain stalled at the registration stage—more than two months after the MHT-CET results were declared. The deadline for submitting applications for Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) admission in Maharashtra has been extended once again—this time to September 2. This marks the third extension, with the previous deadlines set for August 19 and August 12.The repeated extensions have left both candidates and colleges wondering when the admission process will finally begin. The ongoing delays are causing growing anxiety among students. The BPharm admissions in Maharashtra remain stalled at the registration stage—more than two months after the MHT-CET results were declared. whereas admission processes of other technical and professional courses are almost nearing end. The delay is reportedly due to inclusion of newly approved pharmacy colleges in the seat matrix, a process that is still ongoing. The prolonged wait is fuelling the frustration of candidates, whereas colleges fear that students may end up taking admission to private universities or other courses, due to this delay.A head of one such pharmacy college, requesting anonymity, said, “This delay will push students toward alternative options, which will result in a large number of vacant seats in government and state-affiliated institutions, which have to conduct admissions through the Common Admission Process (CAP). Already, vacancy in pharmacy colleges is an alarming concern due to which the state government began inspection of all new colleges which have started in the past three years.”While colleges are questioning the government’s objective to wait for newer pharmacy colleges to add their seats into the overall pool, students are complaining that it is unfair to them. “It is absurd that all of us are kept waiting because some new colleges are being approved; when clearly there is no demand for those colleges. All those who are serious about pursuing pharmacy are waiting for admission to established colleges. And others have already moved on by now to alternative options, due to the delay,” said one of the candidates.Professor Milind Umekar, national president of the Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI), highlighted how such delays in admissions have become a regular trend in the past couple of years. “Last year admissions were dragged till December, severely affecting the academic calendar. Even this year, chances are that admissions will not begin until September end. On the contrary, pharmacy admissions in private universities in other states have already started. This leaves State university-affiliated colleges in a limbo which have to depend on the CAP process for admissions,” said Umekar, while also questioning the need for new colleges.Story continues below this ad“Pharmacy colleges in Maharashtra have grown far beyond the actual demand which is resulting in vacancy in pharmacy colleges,” he said.Stay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© The Indian Express Pvt LtdTags:Maharashtra
