The stolen cash and Aadhaar card were recovered from the spot, and both accused were arrested (File Photo)In a dramatic chase through the lanes of Sector 28, quick-thinking city residents overpowered two snatchers who had robbed a 59-year-old man, handing them over to the police within minutes.The accused were identified as Amit (27), a resident of Ram Darbar Phase II, and Aman (23), a resident of Ram Darbar Phase I. Both were booked under sections 304(2), 317(2), 3(5) of the BNS and the Arms Act at Sector 26 police station. The police also recovered two sharp-edged weapons from their possession.According to the complaint, Ram Kumar, a resident of Vikas Nagar, Mauli Jagran, was on his way to buy buttermilk from a Verka booth near St Soldier School, Sector 28, around 4 pm when the incident occurred. As he pulled out money from his pocket, one of the accused jumped out of an autorickshaw, snatched Rs 2,850 and his Aadhaar card, and fled.Hearing his cries for help, two passersby, Naveen Rawat and Abhishek Sharma, immediately gave a chase on their motorcycles. Ram Kumar also called his friend Surya Mani Mishra, who joined the pursuit. Together, the three tracked down the autorickshaw near the Booster Water Works in Sector 28 and managed to corner the suspects until the police arrived.The stolen cash and Aadhaar card were recovered from the spot, and both accused were arrested.Recognising the bravery of the citizens, the UT Police awarded Commendation Certificates (Class-I) to Naveen Rawat, Abhishek Sharma, Surya Mani Mishra, and complainant Ram Kumar.
