Mysuru MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar has said that writer Banu Mushtaq should clarify her stance on Goddess Bhuvaneshwari who represents Kannada and is revered across Karnataka. The writer had questioned the manner in which the language was deified and worshipped as a goddess, at a conference a few years ago.The MP had earlier stated that he had no objection to the writer inaugurating Mysuru Dasara atop Chamundi Hills; but his stance was seen as different from his party position and raised eyebrows. But the MP said here on Friday that he was not aware of the writer’s remarks on Goddess Bhuvaneshwari which she had made in the past.‘’Having reviewed her old speech, I want her to clarify her position on the subject and if she has issues with it then I will oppose her inaugurating the Dasara festival,’, said Mr. Wadiyar.“She should either clarify her statement or withdraw it. If she does neither, I will oppose it,” he added. In reply to a question, Mr. Wadiyar said that he was not questioning her religious beliefs or practices but want her to respect the religious beliefs and traditions of others. On the remarks of Deputy Chief Minister D.K.Shivakumar that Chamundi Hills and the temple did not exclusively belong to the Hindus, Mr. Wadiyar said since time immemorial it had been a Hindu religious and sacred place. His remarks were irresponsible, he added.Published - August 29, 2025 09:57 pm IST
