We’ve barely got the season started, but already, we’re about to enter the international break. Manchester City play their final match for a couple of weeks on the south coast as they face Brighton at the Amex Stadium. Victory for City will dispel the memory of last season’s 2-1 defeat to the Seagulls, whilst defeat will be another crushing blow after last weekend’s loss at home to Spurs. It’s been a rocky start for Brighton under Fabian Hürzeler, who enters his second season in charge at the Amex Stadium, and the Brighton fans will be hoping for a repeat of last season where they took four points off the Blues, three at home and one at the Etihad Stadium, courtesy of a disappointing, albeit entertaining 2-2 draw.FormBrighton haven’t made the best of starts to the new season, having conceded a 97th-minute goal at home to Fulham to scrape a draw from the clutches of victory, then became the first team to lose at Everton’s new Hill Dickinson Stadium last weekend, as the Toffees ran out 2-0 winners.Their league form completely belies their pre-season form, where the Seagulls won seven out of their eight matches as Brighton geared up for the new Premier League season. Victories over Wycombe Wanderers (6-1), Stoke City (3-1), Las Palmas and Coventry City (both 2-0), was followed by a closed-door victory at Southampton, which itself was followed by a 2-2 draw. The Seagulls then faced Wolfsburg twice, one being a closed-door match which they won 2-0, then followed that up with a 2-1 win over the same opposition. However, that form did not translate into the Premier League, with Brighton have scored just one goal and conceded two in their opening two fixtures. Currently, Brighton sit in the relegation zone, although it’s too early to call them candidates for the drop at the moment.Victory on Sunday though would propel them up the table, depending on results elsewhere. But the Blues, who were a little shot-shy last weekend, will be hoping for their form against Wolves to return and will be confident of securing a result on the coast.New players, departing stars and danger menBrighton were quite active over the summer, and spent much of the money Chelsea paid for Joao Pedro on Greek striker Charalampos Kostoulas, who arrived in a £29m deal from Olympiacos. Other new arrivals include winger Tom Watson from Sunderland (£10m), defender Diego Coppola from Hellas Verona (£9.5m), Korean winger Yoon Do-Young (£2m), Belgian left back Maxim De Cuyper (£17.5m) and Dutch defender Olivier Boscagli on a free transfer. The summer saw Pedro swap the south coast for West London, while left winger Simon Adringra, who helped Belgian side Union SG to reach the Champions League, moved to Sunderland for £21m. Ecuador defender Pervis Estupiñán ended his three-year association with the Seagulls, signing for AC Milan for £17m.Currently, Matt O’Riley is Brighton’s leading scorer with that solitary goal at home to Fulham on the opening day, but Danny Wellbeck bagged four goals in pre-season. The former United man will always be one to watch when Manchester City come to town. The BossFabian Hürzeler enters his second season at the Amex Stadium, realising he has much work to do if he is to guide the Seagulls into the top half of the table and avoid the sack in the process. Brighton finished 8th in the league last season and Hurzeler will want to equal or better that placing this time around.Hurzeler, who has German, Swiss and American citizenship, has presided over 48 Brighton matches, winning 22 and losing 11, giving him a win ratio of 46%.Last time at the AmexLast season, Brighton took advantage of City’s inability to play football, beating the Blues 2-1 at the Amex Stadium. Erling Haaland’s goal in the 23rd minute looked enough to take the points, but two goals in five minutes by Pedro and O’Riley turned it around and kept the points in the south. At the Etihad Stadium in March, Haaland again scored in the 11th minute, but Estupiñán levelled ten minutes later. Omar Marmoush then put City back in front, only for Abdukodir Khusanov to score an own goal for Brighton to send the visitors home with a point.
