The Chicago Bears stunned the Cincinnati Bengals to ruin Joe Flacco’s career night.Caleb Williams triumphed 47-42 in an epic encounter that ultimately went right down to the wire.Flacco’s 470 yards and four TD display was overshadowed by the Bears’ game-winning touchdownGettyWith under two minutes remaining in the contest, Chicago held a commanding 41-27 lead and had a 99.7 percent chance to win per the analytics. However, 40-year-old Flacco, who was traded to the Bengals from division rivals the Cleveland Browns mid-season, in an effort to somewhat mitigate the void left by Joe Burrow after he sustained a turf toe injury early on in the 2025 season, was not about to let his team be blown out. In fact, he became the first player to have 200-plus passing yards and two-plus passing touchdowns in each of his first four starts of a team since himself in 2023, during his first spell with the Browns. The veteran NFL quarterback somehow orchestrated two touchdown drives to go on a 15-0 unanswered run in 49 seconds.Cincinnati were helped in part by a successful onside kick after the ball hit Bears linebacker Daniel Hardy’s left toe, which allowed them to recover the ball despite it not traveling the required 10 yards. After the successful extra point conversion by Evan McPherson, Williams and his offense had under a minute to march 72 yards down the field and find a comeback of their own, with their win probability dropping to just 14.1 percent with 42 seconds remaining of regulation. But it was the rookie Colston Loveland – given more reps due to Cole Kmet’s early exit from the game with a concussion – who proved the hero after Williams connected with him on a 58-yard game-winning touchdown.Loveland finished the outing with a career-high 118 yards and two touchdowns off of six receptions. His previous career high was a mere 38 yards in the Bears’ loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 8. Career night for Bengals QB as Hendrickson trade decision loomsThe rookie tight end wasn’t the only player to record a career game on the night because in his entire 18-year NFL journey, Flacco had never thrown for as many yards as he did against Chicago. Completing 31-of-47 of his passes, Flacco had 470 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions. The last team to score 38-plus points in back-to-back games and lose both was the 1966 New York Giants. Those defeats have made the playoffs unlikely and superstar pass rusher Trey Hendrickson could now be shipped before the trade deadline. Ruled out for the second time in three games due to a hip injury, speculation has been growing over whether Cincinnati will now decide to trade the 30-year-old defensive end, despite having stood pat on their stance that he was not available after a months-long contract standoff. But Fox NFL insider Jay Glazer is of the view that the Bengals’ stance has suddenly changed.“They did so no originally [to consider trading Hendrickson],” Glazer said. “And then the last couple of days, a bunch of GMs said, ‘Hey you better check this out because now they’re saying yes to us.’NFL's Greatest......Ranking the top 10......Quarterbacks of all-time – Can anyone better Tom Brady?Wide receivers of all-time – Does Randy Moss or Jerry Rice come out on top?Running backs of all-time – Stacking Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith and moreTight ends of all-time – How does Travis Kelce compare?“Whether or not they can get what they’re looking for, I don’t know about that. But it seemed like a hard no about a week or so ago and now it’s not.” Hendrickson has been linked with both the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles in recent weeks, but whether he will get his move before Tuesday’s deadline remains to be seen. With their second loss in two weeks, having blown a lead over the New York Jets in Week 8 to lose 39-38, the Bengals have become the first team to score 38-plus points in back-to-back games and be on the losing side on both occasions since the New York Giants did so back in 1966.Cincinnati now enters its bye week with a 3-6 record, while the Bears rise to 5-3, though sit third in the highly competitive NFC North behind the Green Bay Packers (5-2-1) and Detroit Lions (5-3).
