The government has appointed AECOM India Pvt. Ltd. to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the elevated road corridor redevelopment. The project aims to decongest the city’s key arterial route and improve overall traffic management through modern design and elevated corridors, officials said. Divided into six phases, the project will cover stretches from Azadpur Flyover to Hanuman Temple (9.5 km), Chandgi Ram Akhara to Majnu Ka Tilla (2.5 km), Hanuman Temple to DND Flyover (11.5 km), DND Flyover to Moti Bagh Metro station (10.5 km), Moti Bagh to Rajouri Garden (10 km), and Rajouri Garden to Pacific Mall, Pitampura, and Azadpur Flyover (13.5 km).Commenting on the development, PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said the initiative marks a step towards smarter, safer, and faster mobility in the city. “Mahatma Gandhi Road is not just a transport corridor – it is Delhi’s backbone. Our mission is to make this corridor smarter, safer, and faster,” he said. The project reflects a focus on data-driven and environmentally conscious planning, the minister added.Under the commission, AECOM’s mandate includes traffic and mobility studies, environmental and social impact assessments, geotechnical investigations, and the design of underpasses, grade separators, and pedestrian-friendly zones. The DPR will also integrate metro and public transport networks to enhance last-mile connectivity.According to officials, the DPR will feature real-time traffic simulation models to test proposed solutions, the use of green construction materials, and designs for pedestrian and cycle tracks. Additional features in the corridor’s upgrade plan include improved lighting, signage, and safety infrastructure. The consultancy work is scheduled for completion over 24 weeks. Preliminary surveys, topographical mapping, and junction assessments will be carried out during weeks 1 to 6. Environmental clearance, land studies, and geotechnical testing will follow in weeks 7 to 12. Conceptual design and traffic modelling will be undertaken in weeks 13 to 18. The final submission of the DPR, including detailed engineering, financial, and implementation frameworks, is expected in weeks 19 to 24.Stay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© The Indian Express Pvt LtdTags:ring road
