Now that the Halloween season has ended, one Disney park has shut down its version of the Haunted Mansion attraction. Here’s what guests need to know. The Haunted Mansion Around the WorldWalt Disney originally imagined Disneyland Resort’s Haunted Mansion as a walk-through “museum of the weird” attraction. That idea evolved into the iconic Omnimover-style dark ride that fans know today, and Imagineers intentionally struck a balance of silly and spooky elements that wouldn’t terrify guests. That version opened alongside Walt Disney World Resort on October 1, 1971. Tokyo Disneyland debuted its own Haunted Mansion in 1983.As Imagineers developed Disneyland Paris Resort, they sought to incorporate a Haunted Mansion-style attraction into the Frontierland area of Disneyland Park. They eventually decided on a darker version of the now-iconic ride called Phantom Manor. Shanghai Disneyland followed suit in creating its own version of the Haunted Mansion called Mystic Manor. Due to cultural differences, this version is more fantasy-based and does not include references to spirits or the afterlife.Phantom Manor ClosureCredit: Disneyland ParisUnfortunately, Disney Park guests hoping to experience the darkest version of the Haunted Mansion will have to wait a few weeks. According to Disneyland Paris Resort’s website, Phantom Manor is now closed for refurbishment.Although the European Disney park doesn’t say when Phantom Manor will return, guests report that messaging at Disneyland Park indicates the Frontierland attraction will remain closed through November 14.
