Two years after woman found dead, male friend arrested for murder: Police

Deshmukh has confessed to having killed Bhoye, who lived four kilometres from his house, on February 10, 2023.During the investigation, the location of the accused’s mobile phone was found at the same spot where the dead body was discovered in 2023.On October 15, Dang District Superintendent of Police, Pooja Yadav, attended a Lok Darbar event at Saputara Hill Station, where Bhavishya’s brother Ganesh spoke to Yadav about the missing complaint filed in 2023. He also flagged the lack of progress in the probe. SP Yadav then directed the police staff to work on the complaint registered on February 11, 2023 with Saputara police station. The cops learnt Bhavishya had an affair with Deshmukh, something Deshmukh had denied when he was questioned as the first suspect.Talking to The Indian Express, Yadav said, “We first took details of Bhavisha with her photographs of her with clothes which she was wearing at the time of going missing. We initially gathered information on the unidentified dead bodies found in Dang district in the year 2023. Around five bodies were discovered, and upon checking the photographs of the unidentified dead, it did not match. We expanded our search to nearby Navsari, Valsad, and Tapi districts, reached out to their police forces, and collected details of dead bodies of unidentified females found in the year 2023 and also cases which are still unsolved. Our police team obtained photographs of 70 such females from all three districts.”Further talking about the investigation, she said, “The hard work proved fruitful, as in one of the photographs, the clothes matched, and it was of a dead body of an unknown female found in Dharampur taluka of Valsad district on February 17, 2023. Our teams contacted Dharampur police and obtained more photographs of the belongings found with the dead body of an unidentified woman. After examining these photos of jewellery, chappals, clothes, etc. it got matched. We contacted Bhavisha’s mother, Maniben Bhoye, who identified the photo of her missing daughter in the body with the clothes, jewellery, and chappals.”Revealing details of the post-mortem report, Yadav said, “We checked with the Dharampur police and found that the post-mortem report says the victim was strangled to death. The post-mortem states the death took place around five to six days before February 17. With the help of technical surveillance, we checked the mobile location of the accused and found it in the same place where the dead body was found.”Story continues below this adDeshmukh was again called to Saputara police station and questioned by the police. He first denied any involvement in Bhoye’s disappearance. Then when police showed him his mobile location details, he was shocked and later confessed to having killed Bhoye.Dang Police Local Crime Branch Police Sub-Inspector K J Niranjan stated, “The accused confessed to having an affair with Bhavisha but did not wish to marry her. Bhavisha was pressuring him for marriage, but he was distancing himself. On February 10, 2023, the accused was in Valsad selling vegetables. Bhavisha called him and later came to Valsad to meet him. The pair went to Dharampur on the hill at Ukta village, on Dinesh’s bike. They had a quarrel over the marriage issue. Dinesh lost his temper and attacked Bhavisha, strangling her to death with the dupatta she was wearing.
